50+ Employment Affinity Group

April 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

People over 50 want to contribute to the economy and to society. They are an expanding resource, yet older adults are too frequently shut out of opportunities to use their experience, feel valued, and live financially secure lives. Members of the 50+ Employment Affinity Group are focused on changing how older workers are seen by employers.

We share resources and promising practices, learn from each other, and work together to change attitudes, behaviors, policies, and other barriers to paid work. This affinity group meets on the second Wednesday of the month, sets its own agenda, and draws from the expertise of its members.

April Agenda

For professionals in industries with mandatory retirement ages or who face job loss because of competency testing, what guidance can we offer?
  • Should we encourage them to teach, consult, mentor or otherwise remaIn in their professions in adjunct roles?
  • Should they abandon their professions and seek work that builds on transferable skills or work that is altogether new?
  • How do we reconcile, and help these individuals reconcile, the case for older workers with the arbitrary retirement ages set for selected professions?
Join us for part two of this discussion topic How Old is Too Old for Older Workers, with an expectation that we can identify some practical pathways that we and our peers can use in our programs and practices.

If you have questions about the group, please contact Tim Lybarger or Doug Dickson.

This Affinity Group Meeting is only for Members of The Encore Network. To register, please click here.
