As we build the encore movement, we benefit from effective and consistent messages about aging, age-ism and the value of older adults. The Frameworks Institute’s Reframing Aging project offers research-based messaging and communications strategies proven to shift public opinion in a positive direction and decrease bias against older people.

The workshop will be facilitated by Denver-based encore leader Janine Vanderburg, a FrameWorks Institute certified master trainer leading Changing the Narrative Colorado. Based on three years of FrameWorks Institute development and supported in Colorado by NextFifty Initiative and Rose Community Foundation, this workshop will cover:

  • What the general public believes about older people and about aging in America
  • Effective frames and messages that have been proven to increase support for public policies that can benefit all of us as we age
  • Words, phrases and messaging that are not productive because they reinforce ageist attitudes and negative stereotypes
  • Ideas for moving from concept to action
